Step 1: Populate Parent Records
In the example below from the Northwind database, notice that the parent objects have already been populated. (You might want to temporarily maximize this window to see the picture.)
Main actions you can perform on the objects in the parent form -- with only one-click:
- Open (e.g. open the query in design mode),
- Run (run the query),
- Delete or Rename (the query in this case).
- Click on Dep's to have Osage Inside Access find all the Used By and Uses dependencies for the selected object. (Note: these will be explained more fully in the next steps.)
- Used by - the related child records will contain all objects that mention the parent object's name. (standard cross-reference)
- Uses -- if the parent object is a query with layers, all the queries beneath it will be listed here (and nicely numbered!). If the parent object is a form or report, the record source and subforms/subreports will be conveniently listed.
Other actions you can perform on the parent form:
- Sorting: You can sort the parent objects in almost any way you wish (click on any of these icons: )
- Filtering: You can also restrict the parent records displayed in a variety of useful ways (text in name, object type, and user-defined). The filters are all in green text. These will be explained in subsequent pages.
- Report: You can print a report of all the objects and their dependencies.
