Step 6: Creating and Using Hot Filters

Hot Filters
- Let's say you often want to look at a particular collection of objects, perhaps all objects associated with a certain phase of processing, or all objects being worked on by a particular developer (there are innumerable possibilities--here is a beginning list.)
- This could be useful for managing and even documenting your applications, especially complex ones.
- You can have Osage Inside Access remember this collection across invocations, using the four Hot Filters
- Now we will describe how to Set, Apply, Name, and Unset Hot Filters. It's really quite easy.
How To Set a Hot Filter
- Step 1: Using the
Primary Filters, establish a useful set (filter) of application objects. If you are in Northwind, you can set a Name Filter for the text "category". This should result in six records, three queries and three reports.
- Step 2: Decide on which of the four Hot Filters you are going to use for this set. For this example, let's say you will use Hot Filter 2.
- Step 3: Click the + icon underneath Hot Filter 2, in order to "check" all the records in this set for this Hot Filter. (you will get a confirmation message box: Say yes.)
- Step 4: Now, click on Show All, in order to remove the Name Filter.
How To Apply a Hot Filter
- Now, click on Hot Filter 2, and Presto! Those six records now are in the parent list.
- Important: As long as you keep the parent records intact (e.g. do not delete them), then this Filter set will be available to you.
How To Name a Hot Filter
- This will allow you to define the caption of the Hot Filter buttons.
- Click on
Settings on the main form
- Fill in the Hot Filter Captions any way you wish.
- Click on Save.
How To UnSet a Hot Filter
- Step 1: Apply the particular Hot Filter by clicking on its command button. (In our example above, this was Hot Filter 2.) This is a required step.
- Step 2: Click on the "-" icon underneath Hot Filter 2. You will get a confirmation message box. Say yes.
